Tips for Cleaning your Closet

Anyone who knows me knows the joy I get out of cleaning, which is borderline OCD. Those that love me are forced to accept it, even though in reality, I think I’m actually doing them a favour lol!
Recently, I took on the task of organizing our walk in closet, which included sorting through all of my (and Lex’s) clothes and shoes and engaging in some Marie Kondo- esque sorting. It was the definition of spring cleaning and I am much happier for it!
Here are my tips:
1. Flip your hangers
Matching and monochrome hangers are key to feel that your space is organized and serene. I recently purchased Amazon Basics Ivory Closet Hangers , and they are the closest deal I have found to the bulk black velvet hangers at Costco (the Amazon ones are actually cheaper , even with delivery).
I spent $30.00 on a 50 pack. We ordered two packs for our clothes. I also bought the same style hangers for dress shirts, to prevent the shoulders from stretching on some of my smaller pieces. Shop the Ivory Dress shirt hangers | link
2. Marie Kondo your wardrobe
Only keep what sparks joy! When sorting through our clothes, if we hadn’t worn them in a year we put them in a pile for charity.
3. Sort clothing by colour
This is one of the best-loved closet cleaning tips out there! There are a number of benefits to organizing your closet by colour, including helping you see where you have duplicates. I didn’t even realize I had 3 similar white sweatshirts until they were all hanging next to each other. Now that the similarities become clear, I can make more educated decisions about what to buy down the road.
According to FreshHome, organizing by color also has an ongoing benefit. When you open up your closet and it looks nice, you’re more motivated to keep it that way.
Happy Closet Cleaning!
