Updates on my Pink Hair from Home

A week ago, I decided to hop on the #pinkhair trend and dye my blonde hair pink at home.

I uploaded a blog post on the products I was recommended and what I ultimately ended up using. I chose the Moroccon oil color depositing mask in rose gold from Sephora. I purchased the small one-time use tube for $7.99 as the larger tube was sold out.

This was my experience:

From the getko, the process was really simple. I washed my hair with my normal shampoo and conditioner and patted it dry in a towel. I then combed it straight and sectioned in into 6 sections, as recommended in every YouTube video I could find. I then squeezed out the Moroccan oil temporary dye and applied it to my locks, let it sit for 5 minutes and then rinsed it out.

Immediately upon squeezing out the dye, my sink was covered in pink and so were my hands. My bathroom is completely white so I had done my research, and every blogger has said they had no issue with rinsing it away. They were right. It simply rinsed down the tap with water and came off my hands right away. In my shower, I was surprised that no pink colouring actually rinsed out of my hair when washing it out. It was also really easy to apply and seemed to cover my entire head of hair (I have long thick hair so this relieved me as the one-time use tube that I had purchased was smaller than I had imagined so I was worried it may not contain enough dye for my hair).

Once I got out of the shower after rinsing and damp dried my hair, I noticed that my hair wasn’t really pink. There were only small streaks of pink and the ends were still blonde. I decided to try to use the remainder of the tube to try and get a really pink color, so I basically did the process twice. I squeezed out every last drop and then let this colouring sit for about 7 minutes to really soak in. If you have long hair and are thinking of using this product, I would recommend buying the larger tube or using two full smaller one-time use tubes.

After rinsing it out, my hair was pink in colour as pictured above! Although you can’t tell from the photo (with very good lighting and a filter), I didn’t love that it seemed patchy and some areas had streaked more than others. I have concluded that it only really sticks to the highlights and didn't have a strong hold on parts of my hair that were more natural (I highlight my hair pretty much all the way through with a full head of highlights but right now my roots and underneath are my natural hair).

After one week, I can say that a lot of the intense pink color has washed out. My hair looks great, as it’s still healthy and the colouring didn’t effect my blonde or alter it. I actually like the minimal pink streaks, which are really fun. I am, however, disappointed that after one rinse the product was pretty much out. I was assuming that it would provide more longevity and also color my roots, both of which didn’t happen.

If I were to do the process again, I would purchase Kristin Ess Rose Gold wash.

Based on some advice from two friends of mine who have tried out both of these products, they say Kristin Ess is the go-to. The product was linked on my initial blog on this topic as well.

It is currently sold out but you can enter your email address to be notified when it’s in stock.

All in all: I am happy I tried out the color rinse! I had fun for a few days and still have some underlying pink highlights. Once the Kristin Ess is back in stock, I think I’ll give that a go... For now, happy hair maintenance at home!
